A trailer equalizer is a critical component of a multi axle trailer. It is the pivoting, metal piece, typically triangular or rectangular shaped, that connects the front and rear leaf springs together via the shackles between two axles. Equalizers allow the load and weight of the trailer to be distributed more evenly across both axles as the trailer is pulled over uneven terrain, bumps such as potholes or driveway entrances. Free movement is important to the function of your suspension and can improve the longevity of your springs, bushings, and hardware. As the trailer moves over bumps and uneven terrain, equalizers reduce the stress on individual springs, improves ride quality and handling which improves suspension longevity. Equalizers are used with different types of springs such as double eye and slipper style springs.
