A “tie plate” or “spring plate” is a flat steel plate, typically with bended edges for rigidity and strength. It holds the trailer axle securely to the leaf springs. It’s a critical piece in the suspension system that keeps everything safely connected and aligned. Tie plates help maintain proper alignment and prevent the axle from shifting under heavy braking or road stresses. There are holes for the U-bolts and center-bolt to both align and lock the tie-plate down. This essential component sits on top or beneath the leaf spring pack, depending on how the springs are mounted to the axle. The mounting holes are at precise intervals depending on axle tube diameter and spring width. The thickness of the tie plate can vary and can have additional holes for optional shock absorbers to mount to.
