A trailer suspension spring seat (sometimes called a spring perch) is a metal bracket welded to the trailer’s axle tube. It provides a flat surface for the leaf spring to rest on and helps properly position the axle under the trailer frame. The spring seat will conform to the type of axle (square or round) and has a centering hole for the leaf spring’s center bolt to sit. If a trailer is converted from a spring over to a spring under, or vice versa, a new spring perch needs to be welded on the opposite side of the axle. This keeps the axle’s “arch” or “crown” in the proper upright position.
