Keepers on leaf springs generally refer to small metal clips, straps, or clamps that “keep” the individual leaves of the spring aligned and hold the leaves of a multi-leaf spring pack together. They also keep the individual leaf plates aligned and nested properly during suspension flex and movement. The purpose of each leaf is to support the leaf above it, if a leaf was to twist or become misaligned, it can cause unequal support of the spring and risks breaking or bending of the leaf. Keepers can be riveted to the spring and can be secured by the straps being bolted together, clipped, or bent around the edge of the spring.
